Associate Dean for Outreach and Planning
Mr Rory Dean Smith advises
the Dean of the Law School on policy, procedural and
operational issues of the institution. Director of Diversity
and Outreach Programs supporting diversity recruiting,
retention and programming.
Previous responsibilities,
as Associate Dean for Institutional Advancement and
Planning and as Associate Dean for Institutional Research
have included institutional affairs department, development
and alumni affairs, and all of the law school's publications,
media relations, marketing, advertising, event management
and media services. Coordinated with other associate
deans to establish and regularly update the long-range
planning and resource allocation process of the institution;
and coordinated with other associate deans to establish
and regularly update long-range budget planning and
facilities planning.
Responsible for the
institution's affiliation with the Higher Learning Commission
of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Coordinated the law school's previous Legal Education
Access Program for admitted students.
Developed and coordinated
the law school's Bar Exam Workshops, First Year Academic
Skills Training Program, the Accelerated Bar Exam Lecture
and Examples (ABLE) Program, the Academic Competition
Exam Program, and the Multistate Diagnostic Practice
Bar Exam Program.
Founded and conducts
the National Undergraduate Diversity Mock Trial Competition
(2003 to present) and seven regional competitions. Developed
and conducted the "Law and Theater Program"
in conjunction with the Community and Economic Development
Association of Cook County for disadvantaged teenagers
in the summer of 009.
Developed and conducts
the annual summer John Marshall Law School Legal Education
Access Program for collegiate prospective law students.
Developed the Legal Skills Success Camp, in conjunction
with John Marshall legal writing instructors, for traditionally
under-represented entering law students commencing Fall
Semester 2009 to present.
Co-developed the Jumpstart
Program, in conjunction with the Consortium of Chicago
Law School Diversity Professionals, for traditionally
